King Charles III Coronation

On May 6th, 2023, the City of London will host a historic event - the coronation of King Charles III! The monarch, who has been awaiting his turn for many years, will be crowned in front of a grand audience consisting of dignitaries, royal family members, and commoners alike.

A coronation is both the symbolic religious ceremony during which a sovereign is crowned and the physical act of placing a crown on a monarch's head. It formalises the monarch's role as the head of the Church of England and marks the transfer of their title and powers.

The coronation ceremony, to be steeped in tradition and grandeur, will be held at Westminster Abbey, the very same venue that witnessed the crowning of Queen Elizabeth II decades ago.  For the past 900 years the coronation has been held in Westminster Abbey - William the Conqueror was the first monarch to be crowned there, and Charles will be the 40th.

The coronation will be attended by an array of important guests, including representatives of the British Parliament, heads of state, various religious leaders and foreign dignitaries. The Archbishop of Canterbury will present The King with the Crown Jewels while reciting traditional verses. The King then will take the Oath of Allegiance, and the anointing oil will be applied to his head as a symbol of his divine right to rule. The ceremony will be concluded with The King being presented with the sceptre and the orb.

As the new monarch, The King will express his gratitude to the people of Britain, promising to serve the nation to the best of his abilities. He’ll vow to uphold the rich traditions and values of the British monarchy, while also adapting to the modern times and ensuring that the monarchy remains relevant to the people of Britain.

The streets of London have been adorned with colourful flags and portraits of The King, bringing a feeling of festivity and celebration to the city.

Street parties will be held throughout the United Kingdom, bringing communities together in the celebration of the new King.

A public holiday has also been declared to honour the coronation of King Charles III, with thousands of events expected to take place in streets, gardens, parks, and community spaces.  Buckingham Palace has announced various events for the weekend, including a concert at Winsor Castle on Sunday 7 of May.

The ceremony will be broadcast on the main tv and radio channels in the United Kingdom. It will mark the end of the long reign of Queen Elizabeth II and the beginning of a new chapter in the history of Britain.

Another curiosity is about the official party dish – the Coronation Quiche. The recipe - featuring spinach, broad beans and fresh tarragon – which has been shared on The Royal Family's social media platforms – will become a traditional dish in the UK. This quiche is the latest addition to the list of royal dishes, after Queen Elizabeth II's Coronation Chicken - created in 1953 specially for the occasion - and her Platinum Jubilee Pudding, a lemon and almond trifle.

The coronation of King Charles III will mark an important moment in the history of Britain, signifying the continuity and adaptability of the longstanding British monarchy. It will be a grand event that will be remembered by the people of Britain for generations to come.
